How Hard Can It Be? You Just Copy And Paste the Code, Right??!!
Now and again I get a client who really does not understand the more intrinsic parts of what I do. When I take the time to explain to them why it is that it is not just a matter of copying and pasting code, they are good about it and things work out fine.
During a recent project, a client jokingly-semi-seriously (at least at the time she seemed serious) commented about my work and how it must be great to be able to resell the same code over and over again and make money. I mean, that's like telling my carpenter, it must be great selling the same fence (or deck) over and over again and make money on it. Uhm, but excuse me...you still need to do the work...you still need to direct those nails in the right area and in the correct composition relative to your two by fours. It just doesn't happen all on its own, ya know?
After explaining the finer points of PHP coding, she was cool about it. We laughed it up after though.
However I have had those who just want to undervalue what it is I do.
*sigh*....what to do.
